A sub-region of modern-day Europe.
Sardinia is a large, mountainous island in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, just to the west of Italy. Unlike Sicily, it is not very close to any landmass. Its next nearest neighbor is the smaller island of Corsica to its north. Sardinia is not entirely isolated, however, as maritime traffic has long characterized the Mediterranean Sea. In recent history, Sardinia was part of the kingdom which later became modern Italy.
